At The Rodeo

I waited for this day for a month. I got the tickets ahead of time. I brought my M6 with 35mm lens and a7R with FE 70-200mm lens. I even got my cowgirl boots that same day to attend the event in proper fashion. I was excited and a little antsy to get to the venue. We showed up a little a head of time, almost an hour in advance which for this tiny city probably equates to getting there with sunrise. Cody Wyoming is the world’s capital of rodeo. Stampede stadium and Buffalo Bill are localyl and internationally recognized …

The Great Western Roadtrip and my Day in Yellowstone

National Parks are not easy to photograph. The most popular ones have millions of visitors each year and at least a few hundred of pro photographers. It’s a tight competition space and it always matters what you see in those places and how you can stay true to yourself while giving proper treatment to the beauty of these gorgeous places. A month ago I had a chance to go to the state and the park that has been my dream place for quite a while. I had no major shoot plans, I just wanted to see this for myself. It …

Route 66 in 80 photos

I never really thought about Route 66 as a trip I really want to do. It just happened so that I had to go on this two week journey for work and photograph the trip from the back seat of a Harley. It took me some time to get used to spending all day from 8 am to 6pm shooting from a Harley. On top of that this was for 14 days in a row. I think after this trip I can beat any wedding photographer in stamina. The trip started out great and I had a blast for the …

Two days in Yosemite.

Here are the photos from my recent trip to Yosemite. California is unique in many ways and it definitely has the benefit of rich scenery. As everyone was getting ready for the Thanksgiving Day, I was preparing for the two days in the woods. We rented a tent cabin and that by itself was an unforgettable experience. We had to remove everything from the car as the bears are always looking for food. I am always very attentive to the rules and I’d rather to do everything I can to prevent things from going wrong. We wanted to get the …

Russian Nature. Ultimate beauty.

There is one thing that I will always pay attention to – nature. I cannot help but see all the beauty around me. This was a rainy day, but it didn’t stop me from grabbing my camera and leaving for a walk in the field. I did get wet, but I got home with some of the most beautiful nature photos I’ve ever taken to date.

Portrait session for my very good friend and mentor.

During my recent trip to Russia I spent a lot of time with my friends. With some of them our history goes back to when we were very very little. But there also are some people with whom you share so many memories and outlooks on things that it’s hard to put into words. This photoshoot was done very randomly. We didn’t plan anything, just grabbed the camera and went out. I got very excited about film photography recently, so all the color photos reflect that a lot. We liked shooting so much that we went to do it again …

Big Sur trip. From LA to Monterey and back.

Every so often the whole country gets a three-day weekend. It’s the time of interesting trips, family time, and adventures of any sort. This year my boyfriend and I decided to drive up the coast to Monterey. The roads and the views are amazing, and the salty smell in the air coming through an open roof adds to the experience. The ride is about six hours each way and is full of breathtaking views and sudden stops to enjoy the scenery. As we made our way through the curvy roads, we couldn’t help but keep shooting photos. The luxury of …

Moscow Frosting. Snowflakes on the Window

When I got home in December the last thing on my mind was getting outside in -23C. But I didn’t have to go far to find my next idea for the shoot. Our balcony windows were extra sparkling with ice. For a few minutes I couldn’t move as I just kept staring at this beauty. My camera was in my hands a few seconds later. Here you can see the results.

Vintage Napa

Here is a different look at Napa Valley. When I got back home and was looking at the photos, this vintage look emerged and I absolutely loved it. This place is timeless and very comforting. Great vibe!

Black and White Winery

I am going back to Napa in a few weeks and I realized there is nothing on the blog from that shoot. I had one day to walk around Napa and find something interesting. So here are the photos from that evening. It was absolutely breathtaking to watch the sunset from the winery and enjoy the natural rhythm of the nature. This was probably one of those places where you forget everything and just stay present in the moment. I can totally see myself living there one day. Shooting photos, mountain biking, making films, painting, reading, and enjoying my time …

Los Angeles City Lights

Last year I was near the airport shooting the planes and I was very distracted by all the light around me. Everything seemed flashing and moving… but still in perfect harmony. It was not about the geometry or composition, but raher about the mix of colors created by cars, street light, and Christmas decorations. All of these photos were taken from almost the same spot. I think they will look very cool on a huge wall in a modern house. It was fun experimenting like this and finding new themes and challenges.

Smoke. Want some tea?

I love shooting something that is not staged. I like the thrill of finding rather than creating. Maybe it’s just a passing stage or maybe it’s just they way I am with my cameras. In Russia, we have a deep love for tea. In the 18th and 19th centuries, and I’m sure even before that, people make tea the special way. The tradition is still alive, but it’s not the popular way to make tea these days. At the country house, we were making tea the old way and I absolutely loved the smoke. Here are a few of the …
